Note: Some of the older Single Phase Elmo Motors have a mechanical 'Motor Start-Switch' ('centrifugal start switch') instead of the newer style 'Solid-State Start Switch' You can tell this by looking at the motor: The mechanical start-switch was mounted externally on the end of the motor shaft, directly opposite of the belt pulley (it's usually easier to see by removing the front panel on the washer - you will also see the additional wires going to that end of the motor) Elmo still makes some motor with centrifugal start switches (however most of them do not have them) the motor listing will show if it does or not.  It is possible to upgrade to a solid-state start switch in some cases we can provide a wiring diagram so as to upgrade to the new style circuit (however, in order to activate the one-year warranty this has to be done by a qualified technician)

 

More: Our motors come with a one year warranty from the date of purchase.  However, there needs to be some form of documentation proving that it was hooked up by a qualified service tech, and that the other motor related components have been checked out before the installation of the new motor.  

Warranty procedures for motor returns:  In the event that a motor does fail you will need to contact Norcal Industrial via e-mail.  We will then request supporting documentation of the fact that the motor was installed by a qualified service technician and that all motor related components were tested as good before the motor was installed.  Once this is done we will issue you an RMA # (no return parts are accepted without an RMA #).  Once an RMA# has been issued you will need to completely wrap the motor in plastic wrap or put in a heavy duty garbage bag (sealed).  The motor then needs to be boxed up securely as possible in a heavy-duty box (preferably in the original shipping container if possible, or if it came on a pallet it needs to be strapped to a pallet) the motor then gets sent back us (customer pays all shipping charges) and we in-turn send it back to the factory (ELMO Motors in Sweden) via container ship (shipments go out about every 6-8 weeks - no extra charge for over-seas shipment) the factory then does their inspection of the motor to verify that it was indeed a manufacturing defect. Once this decision is made we will then send another motor out.

Obviously this whole process takes a few months to complete (we apologize but this is the factory's policy) what some customers have opted to do is to put in another order for a new motor via the web-site and then once the above process is complete then we in-turn issue a credit back (minus shipping).
